2002 Christmas Special

Have you received a lot of presents during this Christmas? How about the one presented by Tom Lee Music, which was the "Tom Lee Music Carnival - Boxing Day Special" held on 26th December, 2002 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza.

Although it was cold on that day, all the performers and audience still enjoyed themselves very much. The Carnival was divided into two parts, including "Drum Circle" and "Live Band Music Marathon". To celebrate the Merry Christmas, the live band performance was extended to 6 hours from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. 15 outstanding local bands showed their talents with different types of music styles like pop rock, funk and fusion jazz, etc at the Piazza Area C (near the Hong Kong Museum of Art).

On the other side, the "Drum Circle" was removed to Piazza Area A (near the Star Ferry). Under the guidance of the Drum Circle facilitator James Kwan, the participants played the various African drums and percussions well though it was the first time for most of them to play - "Drumming = Empowerment and Fun".

The "Live Band Music Marathon" was a good opportunity to enjoy various performances of such many local bands at a time, which also attracted the attention of hundreds of supporters. 15 local bands were enthusiastic to play their music although their fingers were numbed with cold. In return, the audience always gave them the big hands.

The performance of "Not Yet", which is formed by six 14-years-old youngsters, put the atmosphere to the highest point. The vocalist, Sunny said that all of them were just the beginners that they were not yet well prepared. Hence why they called themselves "Not Yet". They felt really anxious before the performance but the audience's clapping and shouts were won as a return to their excellent stage performance and good manners.

On that day, not only was the "youngest" band popular, but also the "oldest" band did. "Fu Kin Band" consists of members with average age of 32.25 said, "Although our band was always criticized by others as no style, no character, no creation, out-dated ¡K we do not mind that we just want to bring the happiness to others with our music." The audience also clapped and screamed for their strong and powerful performance.

It's raining during the performance of "Rarity" at around 5:00 p.m. that the Carnival was forced to take a break for a while. Fortunately, the rain stopped quickly and "Rarity" could continue to show off their excellent band performance.

The finale show time was going to the Champion and the winner of Best Drummer of the Yamaha Asian Beat Band Competition 2002 - "Ever". When they played their new song "Tomorrow", they even put off their jackets in despite of the cold weather as well as their vocalist Kuboyama Yuki just wore a short-sleeve T-shirt. It made the audience's mood high and the "Tom Lee Music Carnival - Boxing Day Special" was also ended at the moment in full of clapping of the audience.
