Tom Lee Music Carnival 2003 - Finale

On 14th December afternoon, the "Tom Lee Music Carnival" brought a "Music Kingdom" to the coast of Tsim Sha Tsui. You could find different types of music in this kingdom, including strong rhythms of African drums, sweet sound of handbell, wind instrument and digital piano, and also band sound. Hundreds of citizens visited this kingdom and enjoyed themselves there.

Drum circle was held in the piazza area A of Hong Kong Cultural Centre, near the Star Ferry. Under the guidance of Kumi Masunaga, the instructor of "African Drum Workshop" of Tom Lee Music Centre, around two hundreds participants created their own rhythms together. Although it was the first time for most of them to play African drums, they played like professionals.

Music is really the world language. Participants of different nationality and age can play together harmoniously though they do not have a common language.

In the Foyer of Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the sweet bell sound attracted the crowded audiences. Ten lovely performers played the slice-shaped instrument, "bell plate". The instructor, Mr. Law, claimed that "bell plate" was more suitable for children as it's lighter and cheaper as compared with the hand bell.

All performers are primary three students of the Christian Alliance S.Y. Yeh Memorial Primary School. Their outstanding performance won a big applause from the audiences.

Followed by the performance of "Double Mallet Ringers" and the winners of "Yamaha Wind Instrument Karaoke Contest 2003". After that was the digital piano performance.

During the Carnival, the Victoria harbour was surrounded by band sound. 8 local bands with different styles are performed in the piazza Area C of the Cultural Centre, including punk rock, rock blues, metal and pop rock.

One of the band, "ec & breezeband" played with many different musical instruments, like guitar, bass guitar, drum, keyboard, saxophone and blues harp.

Another band "B2B", with 2 members only, also played various types of musical instruments.

Two brothers, Karl & Shawn, are experienced in open performance and are the bronze prize of "Soundbase Festival 2003". The two brothers also won "The Best Guitarist" and "The Best Keyboard Player" in the Life Rocks HK 2003 Band Competition.

On that day, Shawn played the guitar professionally while Karl played violin and guitar, in addition to the keyboard. The audiences were surprised by their talents and gave a nice big hand to their excellent performance.

The Tom Lee Music Carnival will be held continuously in 2004 in Piazza Area C, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Come to join this wonderful event. You will find another Music Kingdom next time.
