Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition is a talent showcase for young piano prodigies all over the world. The ultimate aim of the competition is to promote piano education and nourish promising musicians. By participating in public competitions of such international standard, young pianists are lead to discover the beauty in music as well as themselves.

Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition will be held in 2002. This is the first time that China becomes an official regional competition where young pianists in the Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau will offer their best music for the opportunity to participate in an exciting journey to the Steinway & Sons International Music Festival, Hamburg, Germany. The establishment of the new audition region will definitely advance the development of piano music to a new height.

The Competition
Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition welcomes participants from regions all over the world. Selected pianists from different regions will be invited to perform in the Steinway & Sons International Music Festival in Germany, where they earn an once-in-a-lifetime, unparalleled experience of musical sharing as well as global friendship.

The China Region is divided into 4 zones:
(1) Huabei, Dongbei and Xibei
(2) Huadong and Huazhong
(3) Huanan and Xinan
(4) Hong Kong and Macau

Zone preliminaries will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong respectively and from each zone the top three places of each group are eligible to compete in the China Final and participate in the world class master classes concurrently arranged. While the four champions of each group in the China Final will perform in the Concert of Virtuosos and Talented Youths commemorating the treasured experience, the ultimate "Special Honour Prize" winner will attend, on behalf of China, the extravaganza in Germany.
